Police responded to the crash involving two trucks near Exit 97 close to I-93 just after 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, Massachusetts State Police said.

Initial investigation suggests that a waste disposal company truck carrying a roll-off dumpster was stopped in the right lane while exiting the highway, police said. At the same time, a box truck approaching the line of cars slammed into the truck carrying the dumpster.

The driver of the box truck, an adult male, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity has yet to be released.

The other driver, a 28-year-old Brockton man, was uninjured and refused medical attention. The right lane of I-495 was closed as a result and traffic was delayed all the way to Lawrence, WBZ Traffic said on Twitter.

The incident was cleared shortly after 9:30 a.m., State Police said. The crash is under investigation.
